Band : Witch Cross
Just having reviewed the 30th anniversary release of Judas Priest’s Screaming For Vengeance album, this re-release of Witch Cross’ 1984 debut album Fit For Fight is exactly the contrary of the Priest album, by which I mean this sounds hopelessly outdated. Mind you, it’s not bad, but you immediately hear that this band had less money to record and produce the album then Priest did.
It all sounds a bit thin, yet in that era it must have had lots of success. It reminds me a bit of releases like Grim Reaper or Savage in sound, but not in style. Musically I think this band is more related to a band like the aforementioned Judas Priest, and if you ask me, they sound a lot like Tokyo Blade did. Yet after a few spins, it grew on me, and I really started liking this album, despite or maybe just because it’s vintage sound.
It seems the band has reunited again, and is working on new material to be released somewhere in 2013. We’ll have to wait till then to see what deeds they can perform some 30 odd years later.
