Dark Empire from New Jersey return to the scene with a new album, and a new vocalist in the person of Brian Larkin. Their music can best be described as a mix of classical metal, but with some trash, prog, doom and even death influences in it.

These songs are simply great, even if, to my liking, there are a few too many growls and grunts in it. They’ve also cleverly mixed in some Mellotron and Hammond organ samples in these songs. I must admit though that my first opinion about this album was totally different, to be honest I didn’t like it at all.  But after playing it a few more times, I changed my mind about it.  Most songs are up tempo, however the title song starts at a slower pace, making you think that it’s going to be a ballad, but that soon changes.

At times this band reminds me a bit of Symphony X, so if you’re a fan of aforementioned band you should give this a try.
