|CD REVIEW Michael Thompson Band|
Band : Michael Thompson Band
The name Michael Thompson didn’t ring a bell. But when I started reading the info I had to conclude that despite being unknown to me, the man has worked with a lot of other stars, not especially in the tock genre, but nevertheless. What else to say when you’ve worked with stars like Michael Jackson, Maria Carey, Whitney Houston to name but a few. Further reading learned me that back in 1988 he released a album, album for which he co-operated with big names in our genre like Bobby Kimball, John Elefante, Moon Calhoun… This album was re-released by Frontiers Records in 2007, for those of you who’d like to know.
For this new album he got the aid of Larry King on vocals, Khari Parker on drums, and finally Alan Berliant on bass. And what has this album brought us you might ask? Well, it’s very good quality AOR. Larry King does a great job on vocals, Michael Thompson himself shows that he’s a very good, if not astounding guitarist. The songs themselves are also very good, especially the first three. Most are mid-tempo songs. It’s not an extraordinary album, but it sounds good, it’s catchy, it never gets boring. I mean listening to this music brings a smile to my face. Let me have more…..
Final remark : considering it has taken Michael 24 years to come up with a new album of his own, it’s quite sad. Who knows what gems he could have given us if he’d been a bit more productive.
