CD REVIEW Sonata Arctica

Band : Sonata Arctica
Album title : Stones Grow Her Name
Label : Nuclear Blast Records
Distributor : PIAS
Release date : 18/05/2012
Release : CD

The two previous Sonata Artica  albums Unia and The Days Of Grays couldn’t really seduce me, but this new album brings them back on the same level as before these two albums if you ask me.
The typical Sonata Arctica elements are present, with a very prominent role for Elias Viljanen’s guitar.

Vocals have always been a prominent feature in Sonata Arctica’s music, and this album is no exception to that. There are better vocalists than masterbrain Tony Kakko, but he handles this job quite well, especially in the more melodious parts. The album immediately opens with a very good – and quite catchy tune ”Only The Broken Hearts (Make You Beautiful)”.  Another very good track is “Somewhere Close To You”, with quite a trashy guitar sound.

A nice album by this band.  I hope they continue in the same vein.
